Thanks for the feedback. I didn’t actually create that video, it’s just an embed from youTube. I agree with your comments though. I’m not sure what’s up with the music. I think it’s a good visual over all though.

Good idea. Suggestions: 1. It’s too slow. We click on, want info, want to move on. Bring it down to about a minute, with an option to click on to your longer versiion. 2. That music is WAY too loud. It’s extremely annoying I put the volume as low as I could on the computer and it was still very loud. It should be BACKGROUND music. I know, I could have shut off the sound. Hey, got a place or know of a place I can park my home made motor home.

If you’re referring to Bakken Oil, we’re not a public company and therefor no shares are available. If you meant Target Logistics, I believe the same is true of them. They’re a privately held company, as far as I know.

Robert, there is no dividend program or other mutual or index fund that I’m aware of. But, you can certainly invest directly in the companies involved. Check the right column of this site for the main oil drilling companies. Oil service companies involved in the Bakken, such as Halliburton, are also probably good bets.

Thanks for responding, Halley. I completely agree with you that the companies need to act responsibly, and be subject to regulation. I think the Bakken is a good example of a gold rush mentality, where the rush to explore a new frontier of technology dominates, and drowns out the need for responsible development.

As I’ve said before, I think it’s disingenuous for anybody in our society to condemn oil production, since we all rely on it and are complicit in the damage done by its production. But, the companies are potentially shooting themselves in the foot by ignoring the risks involved, and public sentiment.

I do live in North Dakota, I grew up and here and moved back here in 2005 after living in Virginia for 8 years. I don’t have any first hand knowledge as I do not live in that part of the state and have not seen these things first hand. HOWEVER i do watch the news, read blogs and other sources. With all news coming out of that area you start to piece everything together, and it’s worry some. I am not agains the fracking I just want the companies monitored the way that they should be, because if they are not then who’s at fault if things go good or bad?

Thank you for your comment, Halley. It sounds like you live in North Dakota, is that correct? Any first hand information you could provide would me most appreciated.

I agree with many of your concerns, and my assumption is that fracking has been immune from regulation to date because of the money involved, and because it’s a relatively new technology, at least in terms of horizontal drilling and injection. But, it should certainly be subject to the Safe Drinking Water Act, and it is irresponsible and counter productive in the extreme to ignore concerns about pollution and other hazards.

But, as I note in this later post, it looks like the threat of an EPA moratorium was greatly exaggerated. Not surprising, really. I suspected there was way too much money and investment involved to halt production. It looks like that was some bad reporting, most likely, although I don’t really know.

Thanks again for your input, and if you have any thoughts about how this is effecting your state (assuming you live in North Dakota), please do share them.
