New Gas Plant to Reduce Natural Gas Waste

  • Sharebar

A new gas plant opened recently in North Dakota, and many see it as a big step in ensuring that the area is responsibly developed. The opening was attended by Senator John Hoeven, among others, and he had encouraging words to say about the Garden Creek natural gas facility.

Many companies in the state do not bother with the handling natural gas at the price that they can get for it, and because of this much of the state’s natural gas has been burned off at the well site. This is clean energy being wasted, according to many environmental groups.

Hoeven explained why the Garden Creek plant is such a useful addition for the area. It will help to reduce the amount of natural gas that is burned, or flared at source, and natural gas is also a valuable source of jobs as well as of energy.

The state’s Mineral Resources Department is headed up by Lynn Helms, who pointed out that the processing and capture of natural gas coming from the wells is being improved, and there are plans for other gas plants.

The new plant is expected to be responsible for eliminating flares at 250 wells, and producing 100 million cubic feet of natural gas each day.

The new plant is owned by Oneok Partners of Tulsa, Oklahoma and it is the latest Bakken area gas plant, bringing the total to 16. The energy produced heats 1.3 million homes and is for sale in both national and local markets.
