A First Hand Description of Working on the Rigs in the Bakken

Another video in Timmy Octavian’s great series about working in the Bakken oil fields. This one describes some of the working conditions in the patch, which sounds pretty grueling. This is a good video to watch, especially if you’re inexperienced and looking for entry level work. He doesn’t mince words and tells it like it is, both the good and the bad. It pays well, but it’s very hard, physical work.

what is the easiest way to get started on the rigs? is there a number to call? website you suggest? dont want to go to north dakota and be empty handed
thank you fred ingrim
Hey Fred,
Check out the Job Listings page in the top menu above, find out what companies are posting oil field jobs, and then contact them about entry level jobs. That’s the best advice I can offer right now, other than to continue to research at this site and others. We’re always trying to add new information about how to find work, so check back.
Good luck.
I heard that you can live on the jobsite in a tent or a camper or something like that. Is this true
I’m not sure about that, Coots. Kind of cold this time of year, too. I kind of doubt that you’d be able to live near the oil fields themselves, unless you were in a man camp.
Do you need a truck to get to work or is a car ok? Is there paved roads to the job site?
